Old South Yankee
In Fernandina Beach you will find a gourmet market and catering business that combines the traditions of Karen Miller’s northern upbringing and the southern traditions of Rumsey Lewis’ family. Together they bring a love of local food, use of local ingredients, and their green thumbs to Old South Yankee. In addition, they have transformed a plot of land adjacent to their store as an oasis of organic produce. Rumsey would not allow their seafood lasagna to showcase anything but local wild caught shrimp. Karen’s homemade Florida Orange Sunshine Cake is a pure celebration of Florida. While not everything they’d like is readily available in our area, they do search the southeast for authentic ingredients like stone ground grits, made by trusted vendors. They are helping to raise awareness of what is good, clean, and fair in this area of northeast Florida.
